Muranaka Farm, Inc.'s Most Recent Food Safety Audit Scores Superior Ratings
Moorpark, CA, May 1, 2006: At Muranaka Farm, we are strongly committed to food safety. To assure our customers that these goals are being met on our farms and facilities, Muranaka works closely with our third-party auditor, Scientific Certification Systems (SCS). We are proud to announce the results from our bi-annual testing are in and once again Muranaka Farm, Inc. scored 95% to 100% SCS ratings. These rating were earned by our farms and facilities in both areas of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) which maintains that Muranaka Farm, Inc. developed, maintains, and administers a Food Safety Program, at its Green Onion Harvesting and Land & Growing and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) which maintains that Muranaka developed, maintains, and administers a Food Safety Program, at its Green Onion Washing/Packing and Cold Storage facilities.
Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) are guidelines established by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to help minimize microbial food safety hazards for fresh fruits and vegetables. The key components of GAP guidelines are irrigation water, quality, proper handling of chemicals, sanitation, employee health and hygiene, transportation of products, and trace-back ability. Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are FDA guidelines established for the processing and packaging of food products, whose key components are very similar to GAP.
